Brief History:
Tarhana is a young Vulcan-Romulan child who was growing up in Kir in her mother's home on Vulcan. She was raised by her mother T'Pan. Tarhana's mother, never spoke much of her father, saying in a single quote. "He was a foolish, but sickly devoted man that couldn't decide when to wake up." Not knowing what this meant, or why, Tarhana never inquired of her father again.
Because T'Pan never learned the teachings of logic as a child, and because Tarhana is half Romulan, T'Pan allowed one of the traveling monks to enter their home to teach Tarhana. The monk, Tanos, started with teaching the child to read and write, and the significance of learning the past to reach for the future, including why Vulcans turned to logic to suppress their emotions; one of the things that Vulcans strive for. However, given that Tarhana was half Romulan, and T'Pan not knowing the Kolinahr, he knew she'd be prone to showing emotions. Tanos taught the child as best he could, allowing the girl to follow the teachings of Nirak and the ancient Vulcan deities.
In teaching the child, Tanos introduced Tarhana to T'Kor, a Khaiya-tal master. It was his hope that T'Kor would be able to help futher Tarhana's meditation and learn to focus some of her psionic abilities. Thrilled with the fact to be learning something other than history or logic, Tarhana took up the Vulcan long bow. As hoped, Tarhara's concentration and meditation techniques improved greatly, ergo he was able to teach her to mindmeld, and the shantip. A small beginning to what was to come for the child.
In between her teachings at home and the practice on the archery range, Tarhana enjoyed exploring the Vulcan plains and swimming in the Thanar sea. On one of her outings to the beach, Tarhana met up with two Vulcan kids, Teska and Skon. Teska is three years younger than Tarhana, but Teska's cousin, Skon, is Tarhana's age. The three formed a bonding friendship and soon T'Pan and Tarhana became good family friends of a very influential Vulcan family of Ambassador S'elik. On occasion, Tarhana would stay at S'elik's estate in Kir with Teska and Skon. Then when time permitted, they would journey into ShirKahr with Ambassador S'elik. Tarhana enjoyed going into the capital with Teska and Skon. She liked the elaborate offices of the Council chambers and going to Artisans Quarter to see the ancient ruins of old. On one such journey to the city, Tarhana was able to see where mother worked and attend dinner with S'elik's family at a fine restaurant. While getting to know the family better, Tarhana met Captain Solvek Taran, S'elik's son and Teska's father and Skon's cousin.
However, the friendship nearly came to an end when T'Pan went against tradition in not allowing Tarhana to be bonded at the age of 7. After a much heated debate with Ambassador S'elik and aid from his son, the debate was settled and when the time came for Tarhana, she'd be allowed to choose her mate and to find her rightful path in life.
Now at the age of twelve, Tarhana found that the path she wanted to take was greatly changed when her mother left her in the care of S'elik and his wife while T'Pan went to Betazed on a personal vacation. With that, news reached Vulcan that the public transport was destroyed by a warp core breach, leaving Tarhana without a mother and a journey that would take her to a ship, the USS Federation, where she would meet and live with her father for the first time.
Personality:
Tarhana is a quiet young lady bordering on shy. She tends to keep to herself, although she gets along quite well with others, adults and children alike. Deep inside though, she wonders who her father is and why he abandoned her and her mother, which has seeded some anger and resentment. Sometimes, she'll have an occasional emotional out burst which is uncharaceristic of a Vulcan. However, she does try to maintain the stoic logic a Vulcan is known for (at least in public), despite her Romulan genes. Tarhana has since grown closer to her father and seems to have accepted the fact that her father did not know she existed until she showed up on the Federation and in his life. Since then, she is now getting to know her sister, Emily.
Skills and Attributes:
Tarhana is learning to use the khaiya, a finely made Vulcan long bow. She has been learning since she was 9 years of age by a Khaiya-tal master, T'kor. The art of Khaiya-tal is similiar to the discipline of Zen archery, where archers attempt to find a mystical unity between themselves, the bow, and the target. She is in the learning stages to hunt targets in total darkness, guided only by her keen hearing and subtle telepathic awareness of the of the target. Although Tarhana has much to master, she has won a couple of awards in competitions.
A skill that Tarhana was taught by a monk, Tanos, who frequently wandered through Tarhana's village, was called the shantip, or the healing trance. The trance would allow Tarhana to go into a deep trance which facilitates healing. It would stablize the wounds and to heal significantly more rapidly than normal. Tanos taught her how to meditate and focus her mind as well as teach her the technique of mind melding. However, before Tanos could teach Tarhana shan-laka and other psionic abilities, Tarhana had to leave Vulcan, leaving her other potential skills untrained and unlearned.
